Skill & Drill: Lily Owsley on How to Fake Out Your Defender

When you’re up against a skilled defender, one touch in the air isn’t enough to retain possession of the ball and move it down the field. Seasoned players are agile enough to respond and steal the ball out from under you.

Named FIH’s Rising Star of 2015 and a member of the gold medal-winning 2016 Olympic squad, Team GB forward Lily Owsley frequently uses the “flip flop” move to breeze by defenders. This technique requires hitting the ball twice while it is in the air allowing you to lift the ball over the defenders stick and clear it.

Check out this step-by-step guide, where Owsley demonstrates all the motions to perfectly execute this move.
