STX Spotlight: Maryland Field Hockey

Maryland field hockey is synonymous with Missy Meharg, the longtime Terrapins head coach. In her 28 years coaching, Missy has led Maryland to seven NCAA titles, 15 Final Fours, 21 conference championships and has been named a NFHCA Division I Coach of the Year a staggering nine times. Missy has coached five U.S. Olympic athletes, including Team STX athlete, Katie O’Donnell. During the 2015 season, Missy became the fourth coach in Division I history to achieve 500 wins.

Maryland athletes, and field hockey players around the nation, admire Missy for her dedication, passion, hard work and character.

To celebrate Missy and Maryland’s accomplishments, we sat down with Missy to discuss why Maryland field hockey is so unique. Dina Rizzo, Associate Head Coach, also weighed in on the most valuable lesson that she has learned from Missy as both a former player and colleague.
