D@mn It Feels Good To Be An All-Star
At 23, Vincent Trocheck had already made a serious name for himself after signing a long-term deal with the Florida Panthers and being selected to go to the 2016 World Cup of Hockey with Team North America, not to mention career-high scoring this past season, despite working through injury.
The centerman then learned through a Tweet that he was selected to represent the Atlantic Division in the 2017 NHL All-Star game…so we caught up with him to learn a little more:
How did you react to the news?
It was kind of crazy, it wasn’t even in the back of my mind that it was a possibility I’d be going. I found out on Twitter and was shocked. [Check out the exact tweet below:]
Who was the first person you called?
I was with my dad. We were on our fathers' trip – all our dads were with us and we were touring the New York Stock Exchange. My dad thought the list had already come out and that I wasn’t on it. Apparently he was wrong!
Who are you most excited to play alongside?
Everyone that’s going, really. It’s an honor – all the guys that are going are great hockey players – guys like Shea Weber – great hockey players. And to be able to play with them, see what they do at the Skills Competition and have fun and go out with these guys, it will be a lot of fun.
Hear any inside scoop from All-Star Weekend? Any little-known perks for being chosen?
I have no idea what to expect – haven’t really talked to anyone yet. I’ll probably get some insights from my teammates [Roberto Luongo and Jaromir Jagr who made the All-Star team last year].
What piece of gear could you not live without?
I’ve been using STX Surgeon sticks and gloves for three years – I’m comfortable using them – the Surgeon Rx2 is my go-to weapon and the No.1 item I wear or use that I would feel uncomfortable without. My other gear is interchangeable. [For a chance to win a custom gold Rx2 signed by NHL All-Star Vincent Trocheck, click here!]
Trocheck will head to Los Angeles on Friday, celebrate the reveal of the #NHL100 greatest players that night, relax a bit before the Coors Light NHL All-Star Skills Competition™ on Saturday and the Honda NHL® All-Star Game on Sunday, before flying back to prep for regular season games that week.
